I will do a more fulsome post later – but suffice it to say that Saguaro was a great swim! Unfortunately, I had to pull myself about 3/4 of the way through the swim due to a wrist injury. I’ve had this happen before – so I wasn’t terribly concerned (other than the fact that I have three days of swimming ahead of me). So, I made a decision that I have never made before – to pull myself out. And, thankfully, I was okay with it. I got some work done on it by an excellent massage therapist afterwards and, hopefully, I am good to go this morning.
The day proved to be pretty difficult for some. We had a headwind and one friend said he is faster this year than last – but it took him 30 minutes longer this year. The wind comes through those canyons and seems to speed up. At times, I felt like I was swimming in a much larger body of water. Water temp was around 66-67 and the air temp seasonably cool in the 70s. For those of us who love cold water – the temps were lovely.
All in all a great day. We head out now for Canyon Lake – another roughly 9 mile swim. I expect people will tired today but will still have their great open water swimming
spirit!
Sorry you had to pull out on the first swim day but sounds like it was the right decision. Have a great swim on your second leg today and hope all goes well with the wrist and you have less wind. to deal with. Great pictures!!! The lakes/scenery are just gorgeous. Godspeed.
Hope the wrist is better for today’s swim.. Will be looking forward to the update.
